The Roland SE-02 is a fully analog synthesizer developed in collaboration with Studio Electronics. This compact unit delivers warm, vintage tone through authentic discrete analog circuitry while offering deep programming capabilities via its extensive hands-on control interface. The layout is knob-per-function, making sound design immediate and intuitive.
At its core are three voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs), each offering six selectable waveforms and temperature-stabilized for precise tuning. The oscillators are paired with a rich 24 dB low-pass filter and a dual gain-stage amplifier, creating dynamic and powerful tones. You’ll also find features like three types of cross modulation, filter feedback loop, noise generator, oscillator sync, and a tempo-syncing digital delay.
The built-in 16-step sequencer lets you store up to 128 patterns and chain them into 16 songs. You can sequence notes, gate time, glide, and even tweak parameters per step. The SE-02 can sync to external gear via USB, MIDI, or trigger input, and it offers extensive pattern control options such as shuffle, scale, and direction.
Connectivity is robust with CV, VCF CV, and gate inputs, trigger in/out, audio input, and both USB and standard MIDI. The external input lets you run external audio through the filter, and Chain Mode allows two or more SE-02 units to be linked for polyphonic play. The SE-02 fits into any setup—modular, DAW-based, or standalone.
